Are You Ready For Holiday Shopping?

Holiday Furniture Shopping

Holiday Furniture Shopping

I was shopping with my family the other night and have noticed many stores starting to put out holiday decorations and items. Everything from candy canes, to Christmas tress and holiday themed merchandise. I always wonder about how stores decide on the timing for choosing to decorate their stores for the holidays. For stores I think it’s easy to get into the mindset that the holidays are coming but for shoppers we typically aren’t really ready until it gets closer to Christmas.

When is a good time to start shopping for Christmas though? I guess it would depend on what you’re shopping for. Small items or clothing can probably be done after Thanksgiving when many retail stores start firing up the holiday sale promotions. In furniture though it’s always a good idea to get out there early though. There are several reasons why. First, some furniture items are special order. These may require anywhere from 4-6 weeks to be made and then delivered to you. Shopping early will give you enough time to order in what you want in the color and style you prefer. Second, many special in store furniture promotions can be based on the quantity of items they have in stock. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. If you can get in early though you’ll have your selection of the colors you want and won’t be coming in towards the end of a promotion when much of the selection is gone. Third, giving yourself time to scout out what you need in furniture will help to give you a better idea of what you want and eliminates the anxiety of waiting until a week before Christmas when shopping can seem overwhelming with the limited time remaining and the large crowds moving through the stores.

When to start holiday shopping all depends on what you’re looking for. In this post we’ve discussed that smaller items and clothing are probably best purchased just after Thanksgiving when retail stores begin their holiday sales and promotions. For larger items like furniture however, it is recommended to begin shopping anywhere from 4-6 weeks ahead of Christmas for several reasons. Some furniture items may be special order and you’ll want to allow enough time for these to be made and delivered. Special in store furniture specials may be sold out before Christmas so begin looking early so you can find the best selection. Avoid the large crowds by starting your search early. This will help you to get into that holiday mindset, avoid the holiday stress and may help to make for a great Christmas for both you and your family.
